Mitchell Starc reflects on Rohit’s all-out attack: ‘He hit them all for six’

Star Australia left-arm seamer Mitchell Starc opened up on the all-out attack by Rohit Sharma during the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 game between India and Australia. Notably, the Indian skipper smacked Starc for 28 runs in his second over of the game.

The Indian opener started the over with a monstrous hit over deep extra cover and later hit the second ball in the same area. The 37-year-old further smashed him for a boundary and two sixes as the speedster ended up conceding 29 runs from the over including one run extra from a wide. It turned out to be the most expensive over bowled by Starc in his T20I career.

Recalling the onslaught by the Indian captain, Starc said that he used the wind to his advantage and put all his bad balls away into the stands.

“I’ve played a lot against him. He had a good tournament, especially in our game. I think he targeted that wind in St. Lucia as well. If you look at the runs from each end, one end went for a lot more than the other. I bowled from that end. I bowled five bad balls and he hit them all for six,” said Starc on the Willow Talk podcast.

Rohit registered his highest score against Australia

The left-arm seamer later managed to dismiss Rohit with a brilliant yorker and finished his spell with figures of 2/45 in four overs. The Indian captain played a breathtaking innings of 92 (41) with the help of seven fours and sixes. It was the second-highest score by an Indian player in T20 World Cup history and also the second highest by a captain in the tournament.

Courtesy of his innings, India posted a massive score of 205/5 in their 20 overs. In reply, Australia could only manage to reach 181/7 and lost the game by 24 runs. The loss proved to be too costly for the 2021 champions as Afghanistan’s win over Bangladesh in their last Super 8 fixture knocked Australia out of the tournament.
