India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Men in Blue remained unbeaten throughout the global tournament and defeated South Africa in the final to clinch their second title. Indian pacers were spot on in the death overs.
Heinrich Klaasen, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli were the top performers. Kohli scored 76 runs off 59 balls, helping the sub-continent team post 176/7 in 20 overs.
He was named the Player of the Match. However, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar was unhappy with the decision.
Manjrekar said that the POTM should have been a pacer and that Kohli’s innings was saved by the exceptional bowling display of the bowlers in the second innings.
“Virat Kohli’s knock almost put India under pressure. But the bowlers came to the rescue of the team,” Manjrekar was quoted as saying by NDTV.
“India almost lost the match with 90 percent winning chances for South Africa. The complete change in the death overs saved Virat Kohli’s knock because he scored his runs at a strike rate of 128. My Player of the Match would’ve been a bowler (pacer) because they actually won the contest for the team,” he added.
Hardik Pandya took three wickets while Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh added two scalps each.
