The Indian team has begun their practice session under the newly-appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The players and coaching staff from the T20I team have travelled from Pallekele to join the ODI team in Colombo. The BCCI posted a special video on their social media handle as the Indian team sweated out in the nets session. In the start of the video, a charged-up Virat Kohli arrived at the field with a helmet onand bat in his hand.
Kohli sent the deliveries out of the park as he practised against leg-spin. Kuldeep Yadav and Shreyas Iyer bowled against the likes of Kohli and Rohit and both were taken to the cleaners by the two batters. However, amidst the batting prowess showcased by Rohit and Kohli, Gambhir’s reaction seemed priceless. The head coach, who was supervising India’s practice session, looked awestruck with the clean hitting from Rohit and Kohli.
The 35-year-old batter was also involved in the fielding drill and Kuldeep Yadav and Shreyas Iyer were also spotted bettering their fielding skills. Shreyas Iyer not just did batting and fielding practice, but also tried his hands at bowling during the nets session.

India will face Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series, which will kickstart from August 2 and will go on until August 7 in Colombo. Kohli and Rohit will be making a return to India’s ODI side after a gap of eight months. The duo had announced their retirement from T20Is after India’s T20 World Cup triumph on June 29 in Barbados. This will be the first time that the star players will feature in an ODI series with the newly-appointed head coach.
